My first encounter with flower essence remedies
Flower essences are one of the subtlest and most powerful medicines of transformation I know. Used as a healing tool ever since humans and flowers coexisted, they were first ingested as morning dew on newly unfurled petals. Each flower contributes its own unique remedy.
I took my first flower essence workshop with Cynthia Athena Kemp Scherer and her Desert Alchemy Flower Essences in Tucson back in 2016. It was during that week that I learned and experienced firsthand the willingness, compassion and ability these flower deities had for us humans and how they can help us through major healings and shifts during our human journey. I say "deities" because that is truly what they are, little energy sprites in liquid form, standing by to help us. All we need to do is ask. I have seen it over and over, hundreds of times now with clients. They always seem to get it right.
My very first custom remedy I made was for myself, during that workshop. Cynthia asked each of us to create an intention. What did we want help with? I struggled to choose then settled on the mound of boxes I had piled high in my rented bedroom after finally cleaning out my storage unit in Portland, OR. Everytime I attempted to get through a box, I would give up after spending hours going through paperwork barely making a dent. My thought was, "These boxes were sitting in storage for years, whatever is in them can wait." Yet there they loomed when I first opened my eyes in the morning. So I thought maybe a remedy to help with my procrastination.
Next I set the intention for the flower essence remedy
I stated the core issue, all of the negative and challenging feelings around the issue and then the positive feelings and outcome I desired. Cynthia gave us several options to select the flower essences. Most people chose their essences by indication, matching the descriptions with their symptoms. I chose to try using a pendulum. This is still how I choose each flower essence remedy, and how I now talk to a client's body. (see pendulum class)
Though I had used pendulums in the past, I was surprised how efficient and clear it was selecting the flower essences. There seemed to be no question. I was even more surprised when I looked up the meanings of each of the five I chose. None were about organization or procrastination. Yet there were two which addressed fear of emotional intimacy. Wow, really? I was stunned. Another was about fear that because something happened in the past it would happen again. It took me a while to really sit with the meanings of each and reflect on my life and the bigger issue at play. As long as these boxes were in my room, I was not about to let anyone in there, no romantic anyone anyway. So, as long as I had boxes in my room I could just keep kicking that can down the road. Of course, this was all in my subconscious. In my conscious mind, I thought I was so ready.
Needless to say, over the next few weeks of taking my custom remedy, I felt the shift. At first a softening and then a spark of energy as I put music on and just took one box at a time without much care or thought until they were gone. An interesting thing happened during this time, my roommates and a dear friend all started organizing their belongings! It was too much of a coincidence, I had to ask Cynthia if I was brainwashing those around me with my remedy. She laughed and assured me that they were all responding with their free will to a frequency they were picking up on. Something we all do subconsciously all the time.
